Named after the Bunurong words Toun Nun meaning warmth, the design responded passively with strong northern orientation to bring natural light and sun into the depth of the building to create warmth.
A clear, friendly and welcoming arrival foyer leads to a central arcade that provides access to each of the children’s rooms and maternal consulting suites. This space also serves as a community gathering area with seating and information screens. Whilst largely internal, raised north facing windows bring natural light and sun into the central heart.
The arcade leads to 4 large program rooms for 33 children each, facing onto the external certified play space. The program rooms are grouped in pairs for flexibility, and each is supported with generous storage, custom design children’s amenities and wet activity areas.
Three consulting suites are complete with custom joinery focused on serving the children’s early maternal needs.
Staff workspaces and breakout areas are located to the rear, offering some quiet respite from the activities of the program rooms.
Sunset colours inspire the internal finishes and colours, completing the response to Toun Nun (warmth)
